Question Kernel 2.6.9: Problems with "less"

I've already built kernel 2.6.7 successfully and that's what my comp's running now. I figured I'd try to update all the way to 2.6.9 just to be current, but as soon as I installed it successfully (booted up with no panic and everything) "less" stopped working - it no longer pages files, it just prints them out straight and exits. This problem ceased when I reverted to 2.6.7. On another note, my internet drivers (madwifi) won't build under 2.6.9 without errors, they only build under 2.6.7.

I'm fine with 2.6.7 for now, but I'd like to be able to update eventually.

Any ideas? Anyone else had the same problem?
