Kerbertos and samba as a domain member

Hello,

I have a quick question, I need to setup a samba server with kerberos and winbind so it can join a AD in Windows 2000.
I read quite a bit about it and seems almost clear how to do it but I have 2 questions.
Hopefully you guys can help me out.

Most documentations says that I will need PAM, I came to the conlusion that I won't. But I'm not familiar with the samba ACL and can't quite get if they are going to be needed, I did some research and kernel support keeps being mention (WTF)?.
The other one is that openldap client files are suggested but without pam, doesn't quite make sense. Has anybody went this way before?

I'm starting the experiment in a few hours but I wanted to go ahead since I might expect problems only with these two points.

I know the ACL might get me insane if needed.

Thanks a bunch!.
