KDE sound issues on Slackware

I am receiving error kde detected one or more internal devices were removed after logging into Slackware.
There is no volume

What I found is that the issue is i had run level 4 in /etc/inittab. I did this in order to have the gui login screen to launch instead of typing in user and password through the boot up. After changing it back to run level 3 it works, but question is are there any workarounds to get it to boot directly into my user name and password without sacrificing volume?

KDE seems to have a lot of issues with this, but does not seem like any fixes out that that I can see.

You most likely didn't add your user to the recommended groups, which would give you access to the audio devices under runlevel 4 (runlevel 3 will automatically assign users to groups, but it doesn't happen in runlevel 4). If you used the adduser script to create your user, you're prompted to add your user to additional groups by pressing the up arrow. To add your user to the recommended groups, run the following command as root, replacing $USER with your username on the computer.

Code:
usermod -a -G lp,floppy,audio,video,cdrom,plugdev,power,netdev,scanner $USER
