I've always been updated to current and it's pretty stable (never had troubles yet). If you update KDE you should update all kde related packages including qt to be sure that you won't have compatibility problems. I guess the KDE stuff is pretty interdependant

EDIT: To run only KDE apps but not run the desktop i think you need kde-libs, qt, and i'm not sure if devel. I don't know if kde apps come separate from the packages but i don't think so.

I upgraded to kde3.2.2, but I used the packages in linuxpackages.net archives, which are optimized for the i686 architecture.
Now if I have a package name with this pattern ***********-i686-********
can it be updgraded to the packages in current? they appear there as **********-i486-***********
Do I have to reinstall everything manually? I mean, that's possible to remove what I have and then install the new packages, but I wan't do make some use of swaret maybe, or other progs for this purpose...

Upgrading a package in Slackware replaces the old package with the new one and you can replace -i686 with -i486. The minimum you need is kdelibs, kdebase and qt. After you have the new packages you can upgrade with upgradepkg oldpackage%newpackage
