Jan 17, 2022 geeqie upgrade and odd behavior when opening new views.
Geeqie was upgraded to 1.7.1 in Current. Since then, I've had issues with opening views in new windows. Even after erasing .config and other .local locations where it's config files reside and restarting the program; the problem persists.
When selecting an image and 'view in New window', the window appears, but instead of an image or part of an image, the window is blank. It remains blank until one resizes the window. Something similar showed up when Current upgraded to Geeqie 1.6 and was 'fixed' after rebuilding it against updates to Samba, poppler and possible pango along with glibc updates.
Hopefully, this is not a 'New feature' in Geeqie, but due to Geeqie needing to be rebuilt after upgrading Samba, poppler and possible pango libraies. Samba was redone after the geeqie upgrade.
I'm curious if anyone else noticed other odd things in Geeqie lately.

I'm having the same issue here when running xfce, kde, blackbox, and fluxbox. But it works fine when running dwm or i3. So it appears there's an issue when using a floating window manager but not a tiling one. Interesting.

Very strange. Sometimes it works right away, and sometimes the window is blank until resizing. I did try rebuilding the package, but the behavior seems to be the same.
dwm is a bit of an odd-fish in that it resizes a new window on opening in order to tile it. The program actually receives 3 separate ConfigureNotify XEvents. It's also a non-reparenting Window Manager, which are rare these days.
There's either something wrong with geeqie itself or the toolkit. If it were the toolkit, I'd expect to see more things affected though.
"visibility" events such as alt-tabbing between windows, minimise/maximize,shade, or even move make no difference. It remains consistently blank until the window is resized.

Have to admit that my thought that a rebuild solved the issue was premature. Even after rebuild, opening in new window sometimes fails - but sometime it works.

While my earlier trials weren't 100 % efficient, the method mentioned in post #11 seems to have done the trick for me - I've rebooted and restarted geeqie several times and still no blank windows. Maybe it also has to do with WM/DE.
Not that I often use the "Open in new window" option, I find it a bit annoying that images always open 1:1 instead of adjusted to window size... oops, just found out how to change image size settings.

Do you see this behaviour from the Pan View window or from the file browser window? Or from both, perhaps?
Does it happen each and every time you open a window, or just some of the times (have you tried to reopen same picture multiple times)?
Have you started geeqie from a terminal? If not do so. Do you get any error messages when these windows come up blank?
Yeah. I also noticed it. for me it happens from main window and from sidebar. when open in new window it opens blank but when i resize it - image appears. tried open in new window from pan view and there it works as supposed to. for me not a big dealbreaker. just sayin.
