im kind of a noobie to linux im using Back Track 3 HDD install
i didnt know where that would fit in so i put it here...ill post the lspci next i gotta switch OS's
ok well i got a few things
since last nite i rebooted and found out some things
1. lspci came up with:
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 02)
07:05.0
2.My kwlan was up but my wireless card's alias was not wlan0 it was eth1
when i went to configure it i got this error:
Kwlan was unable to Configure wlan interface using iwconfig
This may be caused by system misconfiguration e.g. absence of the utility called or incorrect parameters passed.
Please check this and try again
3. Since i saw that kwlan was up i decided to do iwconfig again resulting in all this:
bt ~ # iwconfig
lo
no wireless extensions.
eth0
no wireless extensions.

You may have more success looking at the backtrack website and forums. Slackware is different and in particular doesn't recommend using KDE to configure networks - BackTrack may be otherwise.
comprookie:
[dmesg | grep ndis] gives me an error that says something like:
"is smp PENTIUMIII should be smp 486"
i lost the data in the files i made cause windows is gay so im doing it be memory
another thing is that wpa supplicant gives me an error saying that it is not configured right or something
Your going to be fighting a losing battle with Back Track. Try something like Mepis or Ubuntu and see if you can get the wireless to work, then install any other tools you want, whatever the reason you wanted back track from the start.
Why would you want to use the tools from the BT cd, You should be able to install them with the package manager of whatever distro you install, for Ubuntu it is apt and one of the GUI's for apt is Synaptic; http://www.ubuntugeek.com/simple-pac...in-ubuntu.html
