installing the slackware 9.0 version of fluxbox?
Hi,
My problem is I dont know what to do with the slackware fluxbox file (fluxbox-0.1.14-i386-1.tgz). I cd to the folder i extracted to and I try ./configure, make and make install. None of those commands work for some reason. How am I supposed to install this on slackware?
You don't need to compile a pre-made package (./configure, make ....etc) You just need to use the package tool that comes with Slack
On the command line, while in the directory that the fluxbox package is in ( /mnt/cdrom/slackware/xap or whatever) just type pkgtool, then select Current on the menu, finally go through the options until fluxbox comes up and choose yes at the bottom. (you will have a few NO's to select first to get past the packages you don't want to install first). If there is another way to do this from the command line that will allow the user to select the package they want without having to say no to a list of available packages first then please let me know.

Thanks for the reply, Yea that command pkgtool worked fine for installing it. I didn't have to say no to the files because there was only one .tgz in the directory (i downloaded it). I think installpkg [file name] works for a single file also.
Of course, like always, I have problems getting it to work. I type in (when out of xwindows) fluxbox then it gives me an error saying..
BaseDisplay::BaseDisplay : loading of x server failed.
Fluxbox: unkown error.
Is there some files I need to configure before using it? The documentation says .xsession and .xinitrc need to be edited, but I got to the location where it says they are located and both cannot be found. WHere are these files located in slackware?
