installing software

I'm trying to install software made with tgz.gz? "read me" says to use the ol' ./configure, make, make install. But, "configure" does not exist?

I'm aware of installpkg for files ending in tgz.

After using tar -xzvf [file] the only thing is two folders, usr and install. The option to run configure, make, make install does not exist in any of them. These are several different files found on "linuxpackages.net". I tried "installpkg" as well. WTF?

Some tar.gz packages don't come with a configure. Try running make without doing ./configure. Might work.

What is the package you want to install . Please give me a link and I'll try and help.

Sounds like it's a slackpack.

As root:
installpkg package.tgz

You don't extract a slackpack

if they are suffixed as you describe. I would gunzip filename.tgz.gz and if it unzips okay then you can installpkg the resulting *.tgz file. If it will not gunip, then try to rename it and simply remove the .gz suffix (mv file.tgz.gz file.tgz)
