installing perl modules

what is the best way to install perl cpan modules in slackware?

i know that you can use 'cpan' and say 'install date::calc' but there is a perl-date-calc slackbuild on sbo. so which is the better way and why?

If you do it via the SlackBuild then they will be tracked by the package manager, so you can just say 'removepkg perl-date-calc' and it will do just that. If you manage it with the cpan command (and I recommend its shinier brother cpanp if you go this route) then you have to track them yourself.

If you want to delete a module, go with the SlackBuild route. Otherwise just use cpanp. Upgrading packages will be a bit easier, too.

You may want to have a look at cpan2tgz.

I've used this occasionally when I needed some of those blasted perl modules.
