Installing in a SATA drive... HELP!!

HI all... please HELP!!

I have my new computer, with a MB Asus P4P800 and a Maxtor SATA 160Gb Disk.

I want to install Slackware 9.1, but i can't do it...
The system hang when it detect the drive:
> hde: attached ide-disk driver

There is an option in the BIOS to "Configure S-ATA as RAID" (i don't have any idea about RAID), when i changed it, the kernel boot but don't detect the disk (as far as i know)...

Any help PLEASE!!!!!

Thanks...

Slackware 9.1 SATA drive

I have a Seagate SATA drive with a via chipset and I had to install the 2.6test9 kernel before my machine would even see the drive. Not sure about the chipset you're using, but it seems like we'll need to wait for a distro with a 2.6 kernel to install straight onto a SATA drive (unless somebody backports the driver into a 2.4 kernel).

What I did was install onto an old IDE drive, compile 2.6test9, partition, format and mount the drive, then copy everything over to the new drive. First time I did it, it wouldn't boot (I think it was an fstab issue). Going to try again this weekend.

Good luck,

joe f.
