Imported Windows TTF fonts work in GTK+ 1.2 but not 2.0

I'm running XFree 4.3.0. I copied the TTF fonts from my Windows partition to /usr/X11/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/win_ttf. I added that directory as a FontPath entry in my XF86Config, ran ttmkfdir >fonts.dir and fc-cache -f to add the fonts. The fonts work fine in GTK+ 1.2, show up in xfontsel, but will not show up in GTK+ 2.0 apps. Is there something separate that I need to do to get the fonts to show up in GTK+ 2.0?

I'm very interested in the answer to this problem. I myself am having the same trouble.
