Well KDE 4.5 XFCE 4.6 GLIBC 2.12.2 GCC 4.5.2 are in the sure bag for 13.2 release so i guess its a kernel watch for now......... although 2.6.35.10 seem to be the choice so far.
There have been some rumblings from Slackware users with Radeon graphics cards with this kernel though.....
on a side note, seems like sf.net servers has just beencompromised. (I linked the cache because the original pages are down - EDIT: they're up again now)
I'm looking forward to next slack because I needed a newer kernel to play StarCraft II and I'm too lazy to learn how to upgrade the kernel. So I'm using Fedora 14 for the time being. I am a traitor.
Chaps it really is easy to build a new kernel - if you use your old config file it takes no time and hardly any thought. Trust me i'm a noob and I did it in a couple of hours at first attempt, including over an hour compiling.
I usually don't make predictions. But the first RC may show up on Ground Hogs day. If the dog see it's shadow then we are in for more winter and PV will need to provide us with a RC to work on for those long winter nights;
Quote:
history;
It is the day that the Groundhog comes out of his hole after a long winter sleep to look for his shadow. If he sees it, he regards it as an omen of six more weeks of bad weather and returns to his hole.
If the day is cloudy and, hence, shadowless, he takes it as a sign of spring and stays above ground.
I prefer the latter from above and PV will release things when it is ready.
I haven't used KDE since Slackware 9.0. XFCE is the way to go! From what I have read elsewhere, it seems that xfce 4.8 is not going to be included in the latest release of Slackware. I would imagine that KDE 4.6, xfce 4.8, and the demolition of HAL will be in a later release such as 14? Also, they are up to the 2.6.35.11 kernel now, along with some new xf86 ati drivers that I am going to test (I need those for a laptop I use that isnt officially supported by ATI). Also, I have an ATI Radeon HD 4870 on my desktop, and it seems to be running fine with the latest CCC and -current Slackware. No problems yet anyways. I am also ready for the next release, but patience is key. Now all we need is netflix for linux!

Thanks
I'm not a big fan of KDE either. From my Girlfriend's assessment, it's stable, shiny, and fast. On her PC (Core2Duo e8400, 3GiB ram, Nvidia GT 220) it does feel zippy. Personally, KDE is a little too busy for me. Though I do use Dolphin as my secondary file manager in Xfce, and a handful of other QT/KDE apps. Xfe is my file manager of choice. Thunar really needs tabs!!!
Just replaced my roommate's ATI hd3470 with an Nvidia card before the update. Well, actually I got a new GTS 450, the Girlfriend received my GT 220, and our roommate, she was handed down a 9400GT. Only one ATI card left. An agp 1600. Which, so far works pretty good with the open source r300 drivers. If I could find something better than an Nvidia 6200 at an affordable price, I'd replace it as well.
I gave up on Netflix. We have been subscribers for 7 years, and finally just got tired of waiting. I played around with using a VM, and a VM running PlayOn to stream Netflix over upnp. With djmount and mplayer as clients or Xbmc as a client. Got tired of my cash going towards a company that refuses to fully support Linux. Even though the Roku (Linux based), and the new PS3 client and Google TV (WebKit and HTML5 based) are supported. Hulu has a native Linux client that works great. They will get my cash for now on. If only they (Hulu) had a larger catalog.
Unlikely. However, I will agree that we are much closer! I am presently upgrading my -current boxen and it is going very well indeed. I think we are going to have RC1 in the very near future.
