I have broken my KDE desktop - can you help me repair it?

Sorry about this but I must have done something that I should not have done and now I can't get things back to 'normal'.

See attached.

I seem to have detached the menu system from the bottom panel. There also used to be a large 'K' on the left hand side of the panel that I could click to open the menu system - it is gone too.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can re-add the KDE icon by right clicking the panel and going into the widgets menu. I can't think of what it's called but you'll recognize the icon (actually I think there are other widgets that use the same icon). Not sure about your menu issue though, I'm not on a system with KDE at the moment so I can't check.

If you still have the panel at the bottom of the screen, right-click on it, slide over Choose Options, click on Add Widgets and you should see Application Launcher. Double-click on the icon to add it back to the panel.

If that doesn't work, you might want to start over. Simply exit X (so you've got a console), make sure you're in your home dircetory and remove the .kde directory then startx; e.g.,
Code:
cd to your home directory
prompt: rm -r .kde
startx
Not a "fix" per se, but really effective (and, of course, you have to redo settings, preferences and all that but you've got a clean start to work with).

Hope this helps some.

I don't know about anybody else, but I can't see the attached file. However, what seems to have happened is you unlocked the bottom panel. If you deleted it, then you can go to the top right corner where the little plasmoid is (it's a curvy thing) and click "Add Panel" then set it down to the bottom or wherever you want.

As for the "K" button, it's actually a widget called "Kickoff Application Launcher" which you can find by clicking "Add Widdgets" also from the plasmoid.

Hope that helped! ^^
