Can anyone help me upgrade my kernel? i tried to D/L the sources by myself and compile, etc... but I clearly am not doing it properly as it will not boot. I am a little new to manually installing / upgrading kernels.
EDIT: Wow... I think it would have been helpfull for me to give some more info... like I am using Slackware 11, fresh install. I made the old kernel accessable in the LILO boot menu, so I can still boot in without any problems with the old kernel.
Thankyou very much! I am about to go through those steps now. It seemed as if my main problem was the config settings I used, but I have had almost no experience configuring the kernel.
I could not find a config file for kernel version 2.6.29 but I found a generic one and used it. I am able to boot in and everything seems to work fine, except StarOffice gives me a seg fault now. Any idea how I can find more info about the seg fault or what kernel config options I may need to change?
Please send all the error messages you get. The segfault can have a lot of reasons, the way the kernel is configured being not the more probable IMHO, but let's check the error messages first.
