How to apply patches??

Hi all

I am a newbie running Slackware10.2; I have just joined the Slackware-security mailing list.

But the thing is I have never applied patches to a Linux sytem before. I did it on Windows, but is that also how you do it on linux??

Thanks

The security patches that Slackware-security mention are already applied in
the updated packages, you just need to download and upgradepkg them

Patches are text files designed to be applied to source packages,
basically it contains the modified source code and the patch program
is used to update the source code in the original source directory,
after that, you recompile the patched program and re-install it
