What's wrong with reviving a (now formerly) dead thread?

Never understood the opposition behind it.

It's frowned upon on most forums and is considered bad netiquette (like farting in public is bad etiquette). A big reason is people may start at the beginning without realizing its an old thread and try to help the person who started the thread years ago. That person likely either already solved their problem without providing any updates (relevant xkcd) or moved on and can't give any additional information to help out. This wastes everyone's time and pushes newer issues further down.

In this case, there's much more recent discussion to building Slackware from Scratch (which I linked to in my post).

The necroposter just used this thread to advertize his totally non-Slackware related Linux From Scratch drivel (sorry, derivative).
Best to leave it alone.
