Slackware's package manager is 'slackpkg'. You can check out SlackBuilds.org for software that has build scripts already created by other users. Check out the FAQ on their website for more information.

'pkgtool' is the original;

excerpt from 'man pkgtool';
NAME
pkgtool - software package maintenance tool.

SYNOPSIS
pkgtool

pkgtool [ --sets #a#b#c# ] [ --source_mounted ] [ --ignore_tagfiles ] [
--tagfile tagfile ] [ --source_dir directory ] [ --target_dir directory ] [
--source_device device ]

DESCRIPTION
pkgtool is a menu-driven package maintenance tool provided with the Slackware
Linux distribution. It allows the user to install, remove, or view software
packages through an interactive system. Pkgtool can also be used to re-run
the menu-driven scripts normally executed at the end of a Slackware installa-
tion. This is useful for doing basic reconfiguration (like changing the
mouse type).

A good site for OOo packages. Robby is a Slackware developer, his packages are first rate.

Oops, thank you for the correction. Funny thing is that I had just used the tool to install the new updates before posting that and I still got it wrong.

It is a good idea to read the SlackBook if you have not already:

There are slackbuild scripts for compiz at http://slackbuilds.org/. Just go there and search for "compiz". You can use the previously mentioned sbopkg http://sbopkg.org/ to automate building those packages.
