i have installed wine in slackware 9 Wine-20030408-i686-1.tgz

i didn't get any error messages, but then i run winecfg i get this

wine: cannot open /root/.wine : No such file or directory
then i run wilnelauncher it say that he can't find configuration file under /root/.wine ( no such file or directory)

i have ttrayed install and from Wine-20030408-i686-1tar.gz

oh jes with /tools/wineinstall i get some errors
but and then i couldn't to configure.
i really need to install wine because i keep windows only for ms office ( i like this prog) and few other programs ( i need more space for linux )

I believe the recommended installation process for compiling the source is to run tools/wineinstall from your wine source directory.

You probably should not run Wine as root. Wine is still very buggy and you don't want it doing bad things to your computer

Also, MS Office does not work very well in Wine. You may be better served by getting Crossover Office (a Wine distribution made for MS Office) or by using one of the many good office suites that are native to Linux, such as OpenOffice, KOffice, or the Gnome Office suite.

Have you tried OpenOffice, KOffice, etc.? If MS Office is the only thing you need Wine for, then it would be much easier to just use one of those instead of trying to get the official Wine version to work with MS Office.

Don't worry about all of that junk. I think it's actually normal. It did the same to me, and wine does work, in spite of all of that.

Yeah don't worry about the excessive font messages. It always does that the first time you run it, so it knows about the fonts it has available to it. As for the "ignoring drive" messages - that just means there's nothing mounted on them at the moment.
