Help with getting KDE 4.2 to start

Ok, so I've successfully downloaded and compiled KDE 4.1.87. Previously installed was KDE 4.1.3 from the Slackware/testing packages. I know that KDE 4.1.87 is working because if I look at the versions of Dolphin, Konsole, Konqurer, etc... they all say 4.1.87.

My problem is I can't start KDE 4.1.87 without having 4.1.3 installed. If I remove the kdebase-workspace-4.1.3 package, it removes KDM and I can't start KDE 4 from the command line. If I type plasma, it complains about no connection to the d-bus server. But if I go into XFCE4, and type plasma from konsole, KDE 4 will start and I get the KDE 4 desktop (on top of XFCE4; point being KDE 4 will actually start up).

I'm thinking it's just the init scripts getting removed when I remove kdebase-workspace 4.1.3. But I don't know what they are.

Thanks for notifying about 4.1.87, I looked earlier today and only saw 4.1.85 (aka 4.2beta2).

I have no idea what your problem is because I run 4.1.85 without any issues here.

Well it runs, but I just can't understand why it won't without 4.1.3 kdebase-workspace.

Unless I'm missing something, I download the sources, run cmake . in each directory, make, make install, and that's pretty much it. Is there anything I'm missing?

if kdebase-workspace 4.1.3 isn't installed, KDE isn't even an option in xwmconfig. I don't understand the problem.

This is where I found 4.1.87
goto: http://download.kde.org/download.php?url=
choose your closest mirror
go into 'unstable'
and 4.1.87 should be there.
I stumbled across it accidentally in a google search >_<. It's more stable than 4.1.85!!!

Of course you can inspect the SlackBuild scripts which were used to build Slackware's KDE 4.1.3 packages: http://slackware.osuosl.org/slackwar...urce/kde4/kde/ and get a betteridea of how to build KDE4.
There is a bit more to it than just cmake && make && make install.
Also, KDE 4.1.85 (and likewise 4.1.87) will not fully compile - not for me at least - unless you update some of the dependencies (found in /testing/source/kde4/deps) as well.

I am building 4.1.87 at the moment to see if things changed since 4.1.85.
