I have been using slackware for a couple months now and since I installed it I haven't had any problems with the sound. Now, however, when I boot up it gives me this error when KDE loads:
Sound server informational message:
Erro while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device
The only thing that I can think of that has changed since yesterday was that I did a swaret --upgrade and install a bunch of updates. What should I do so I can get my sound working again?
Thanks.
make sure you have installed the alsa package that matches your kernel (if you did an swaret upgrade, the kernel is excluded by default.. yet alsa is not)... So either reinstall alsa from pkgtool from the cd.. or download and install alsa from source.

That makes sense too, I did update alsa and I'm only using the 2.4.26 kernel so it may have an issue...
I got it! I reinstalled the alsa-driver from my topo cd and it works great! Thanks for all the help. Also for reference, the version that works is alsa-driver-1.0.5a.
Thanks again.
