HELP--Slack on a Laptop

I'm having trouble setting up my X config. I'm using a VAIO laptop model PCG-719 running Slackware 9.1. It's a 233MMX w/ 96 ram, 13 in display, NeoMagic MagicGraph 2160 video card, etc. I can get X to run, but only at 800x600, and I know this display is capable of 1024x768. I did some research and I know the display vendor is Sharp, but there are no monitor options for Sharp. I've tried various Sony, the LCD monitor settings, etc. Anyone have any experience setting up a 13.1 in laptop display at 1024x768? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, slightly off subject, I'm trying to configure a D-Link DWL-G650 802.11g pcmcia card. If anybody knows any good info on setup, let me know.

Thanks,
Kris

you will a find you file in

/etc/X11/

called XF86Config

you will need to edit yours.

some where in yours it will be something like modes 800x600,640x480

all you need to do is edit it to say 1024x786.

NOTE:
Make a backup copy of the file before you edit.

After the 4th run of the X setup, it worked. Actually, after the 2nd and 3r run, I edited the XF86Config file to no avail. I guess the 4th time's a charm. I manually set the V/H refresh to some pretty generic rates and it worked. So now I've got the plug-in ethernet and video working. Still working on the sound and 11g wireless. I guess it's alot to ask of this P233 setup. I have a 2gig HD and it's almost full... guess I installed some pkgs that I didn't need. Anyway, if anybody has any pointers on setting up the wireless, I'd appreciate the help. I'm using a D-Link DWL-G650 wireless card and it won't work.

I think the DLINK 650 you have is mentioned in the HCL here on LinuxQuestions.org. Check there first about that issue.

Now the real issue...
Are you familiar with editing the /etc/X11/XF86Config file by hand at all? If not, it can look pretty cryptic at first. It's actually pretty straightforward (most of the time).

There are a few things that have to work together to get you up to 1024x768.
My first reaction would just be to try to use the "vesa" driver.

Take a gander at that file, rather than trying to use utilities to set it up.
