having troubles with kde filesystem widget

I am having trouble enabling show the desktop folder with desktop settings with
filesystem widget.

my old .kde file had some fix for it. I am trying to enable it for my root account.
be nice to know how I fixed it in past but thats not likely to happen.

tried searching for fix to no avail. appreciate some help.

using slackware 14.1 for amd/ati fglrx driver issues with 14.2 and current.

I'm not good with KDE at all but this might help.

Right click on desktop -> Desktop Settings -> Layout: Folder View -> OK.
If it doesn't work, go back to Desktop Settings and change the location to your desktop folder in Location.

If that doesn't help look in the KDE Forum.

Thanks for the details.

IF you have the time could you compare the old kde folder and files to the new ones and tell us the differences? The diff cmd should work.

Code:
diff file1 file2
