Hey guys. I've just finished setting up Slackware 14 again to the way i like it. I cloned it to a different partition so i could tinker, and after some upgrades of certain packages from 14.1, i learnt something. The issue i am having is being caused by the kernel. I confirmed this by installing Slackware 14.1 again, and then downgrading the kernel to 3.2.* from Slackware 14. After downgrading the kernel packages, i could connect to the internet on Slackware 14.1.
This is great news to me. One step closer to pinpointing the bug. I am not sure exactly which kernel package is responsible for this issue, but once i discovered this, i googled around, and found the following. http://workyworky.notetofutureself.o...for-linux-3-8/
The link refers to the bug i'm suffering and the publisher of the article has even made a patch for the 3.8 kernel. I am yet to check out the patch, but tomorrow i'll have a better look, and hopefully it will be compatible with 3.10.*

Hi, I'm the author of the patch ... I'm curious to hear how it goes.
Hi Marburg, and welcome to LQ. It compiled and installed fine, but it didn't work. After the patch was installed, when i would plug the modem in, the computer would freeze.

Hm, that's no good. I'm not a Slackware user, so I'm not in a position to test directly but I can at least check with my hardware on a more recent kernel version. What kernel version is Slack 14.1 using?
I got a solution to a similar probelm by downgrading ModemManager, got myself ModemManager-0.5.2.0-x86_64-1_SBo instead of the system ModemManager-1.0.0-x86_64-2

Resurrecting a 2.5 year old topic is not really appreciated as it is very confusing.
In particular as the original TS is likely to no longer have the problem.
