hard drive swap works, with a few problems, i need some help

ok, so slap me upside the head for doing this, but.....

i was putting together a machine for my kids to use for internet browsing. so i installed slack 13.0 on a P3-500 machine i have, got it set up, including using an updated driver for the wireless card (the one included in slack locks up the machine). well, the P3 machine was too slow and clunky, so i swapped the hdd and wireless card into a machine that is a P4-1.6Ghz. fortunately both machines had ati 3d video cards (not the same model, but it seems to work ok nonetheless), so the video driver works fine, and the wireless driver works fine. what doesn't work fine is the sound. the sound drivers dump on boot. so, what should i do? do a complete reinstall of slack? or are there tools i can run to fix driver inconsistencies?

at least i didn't try this with windows, that would be an instant BSOD...and another $200.00 for a new license

Well, you could try compiling a new kernel or rmmod the current sound driver and modprobe the one you think should work (assuming you're running the generic kernel). Then... Dangit I forget how to load modules on boot... But yeah, at least figure out which driver you need first. Google will be helpful in this case.

Run alsaconf as root, followed by alsamixer (set levels to highest possible and unmute everything) and `alsactl store`. If that doesn't work then post back and hopefully a fix can be found.
