GRUB for slack

I am thinking of dual booting with slack now that my FC1 is gone, but I dont like the lilo booter. Is there any way I could get grub boot loader for Slack and Windows? Because it looks real pretty and with FC1 I didnt have to do anyting, and it detected windows and fc1 and worked fine. Or maybe there is another loader I could use?

Grub can be downloaded and installed - you can get the program from http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/grub/ and the instructions from http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/ (it's now a GNU project).

The FC1 bootloader is a customised gui from RedHat - you will probably have a fair bit of work to do to match it.

Incidentally, I feel the same way about Lilo and when I have more time will try an install of Grub - tried it briefly tonight and I couldn't work it out!

Hmm. Do you know where there is a st00pid n00b13 how to for grub? I really dont want lilo at all, if it buggers with my MBR i dont like it. I know grub will, but grub worked once for me, so I trust it. I hate messing with my mbr, uninstalling grub messed up my mbr and I lost about 30 gigs of music. But while I had it, it worked great.

The install loks pretty straightforward, but you do need to read the instructions. Even if your mbr is messed up, it can be fixed very easily - simply rerun your install disk and run pkgtool and reinstall lilo - takes minutes. That is, if you are using Slackware.

hosing the mbr doesnt equate to losing your files. Not sure why your lost your mp3 because of a screwed mbr.

long story short.

Slave drive with music.

Rewrote MBR with win xp pro and buggered about with booting things.

It made my slave hidden and with a wacky disc geometry AND with and extra OPUS type partition. Now it isnt detected with xp and I cant copy files from it.
