What type of data do you want to extract/exploit?

gpsd is basically a way to decode live position data from a GPS receiver that outputs a data stream. I have not found anything that indicates the Etrex 22X does.
I am not familiar with the Etrex 22X but from a quick read of the manual you can access stored data on the memory card if installed from the USB port which should appear as a USB storage device (Windows and Mac). If it isn't recognized as a USB mass storage device it might use MTP which should work.

I saw this program a while ago that Is capable of extracting GPS data from Garmin devices. It needs some KDE stuff but it should be all there if you are running -current
