when i first installed slackware, under the console settings, i choose the 1024x768 option (with the little pengiun at the top of the screen). it appears that this is part of the reason why i cant get my framebuffer to work correctly with the ibm thinkpad a31.
i edited my /etc/lilo.conf file to use /boot/initrd (generated from the splashutils)
however when it boots, i have this:
radeonfb: ref_clik=2700, ref_div=12, xclk=16600 from BIOS
radeonfb: panel ID string: 1024x768
radeonfb: detected LCD panel size from BIOS:1024x768
radeonfb: ATI Radeon M7 LW DDR SGRAM 16 MB
radeonfb: DVI port LCD monitor connected
radeonfb: CRT port no monitor connected
vga16fb: initializing
vga16fb: mapped to 0xc00a0000
fb1: VGA16 VGA frame buffer device
appears to be working correctly, but its still using the little penguin console setting rather then the bootsplash that i created... i guess my question is... how do i change this from the penguin to my bootsplash in slackware?
If yes, try to disable vga and radeon framebuffer, enable VESA instead
Also to use bootsplash, I believe you have to disable LOGO framebuffer
feature as well
Now you have to change your kernel configuration, using make config, make menuconfig or make xconfig. Go to "Console drivers" -> "Frame-Buffer support" and select "VESA VGA graphics console" (or possibly another framebuffer driver, if one is available for your graphics hardware) and turn on "Use splash screen instead of boot logo". Also be sure to enable "Initial Ramdisk support" in "Block Devices" Save your new config and compile a new kernel. Copy the kernel to your /boot directory and make sure that you have a boot entry for it in your bootloader config.
I could never get 1024x768 to work on bootsplash. Atleast with the 2.6 kernels... Try vga=788
I think thats the one. 800x600. Make a new initrd with 800x600 and then try that. Atleast then you'll know that it's the vga setting. Also, I don't disable the logo setting and bootsplash still works. Your bootsplash option seems to override the logo if you specify an initrd in your bootloaders config.
If 800x600 works, you can also pick a custom console font thru plgtool. Find one that's a little smaller. It will make it look more like 1024x768.... :-)
