Thumbs up For those who dont have internet in the new Slackware 11

I was struggling for a really long time to get my internet working in Slackware 11. It worked only with kernel 2.4.33.3, but i wanted a new and shiny kernel 2.6.xx generation. So i have choose'd to use test26.6 ( or huge26 ) from Slackware CD. In any case, after installation i didn't have internet.
Of course my modules was loaded ( via-rhine ) but no internet.
So if someone has the same problem OUT THERE just do the following and i guarantee that you'll have internet !
So first step: download a new shiny kernel from kernel.org ( i have choosed 2.6.20 ).
2 THIS IS IMPORTANT !!!!
PLEASE read carefully http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=174447 Trust me that post is really great, and even if you are newbie ( like me ) you will manage to compile and install your new kernel, JUST DON'T HURRY things.
Make sure to select you Ethernet wendor, in order to really have internet after all those steps;
Ok when everything is done and you are just about to boot WAIT !!!
IF you are using LILO as boot manager please take a look at /etc/lilo.conf and at top of the file you should see something like
# Normal VGA console
# vga = normal

Now enable vga = normal.
Ok now you are really done... reboot.
if you still dont have internet now, just type:
Code:
netconfig
and after you setup your connection settings type:
Code:
/etc/rc.inet1
Now you should have internet
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE !

LILO needs to be reinstalled (rerun) each time after it's configuration file is altered, because it's written in the MBR and it does not read it's config file from the harddisk partition like GRUB does. So after saving the file, run lilo as root, then reboot to make the changes take effect (otherwise you won't lose anything, but the changes you saved are not in use though they are written in the file).

Anyway good you have found something out. I myself had a problem with a pppoe connection that I could establish (running pppoeconf which some distributions call adsl-setup, setting all the things needed..); the connection was on but DNS lookups etc. didn't work and I couldn't actually do anything with the connection. Solution? This far I've only managed to get around it by
Code:
poff -a
ifconfig eth0 down
pon dsl-provider
or if you use other tools, stop the pppoe connection, bring the device down that you use for connecting and then re-establish the connection. I believe during boot when the connection is made, the netconfig settings somehow mess it up and a restart of the connection is needed, in addition to stopping the device in between. I've tried various other ways, i.e. just stopping & restarting the device, running dhclient/dhcpcd manually etc. but this seems to be the only working way in my case. Also I'm not sure what it depends on; my ISP, my connection type, something in the pppoe configuration or just something I can't think of. Hopefully this helps if somebody has a similar problem (people at Slackware's channel were unable to solve this too, last time I asked).
