Firefox2 and streaming video

I upgraded to Firefox 2 using Pat's package and found streaming video broken. Pages which I had previously been able to watch using gxine or kmplayer wouldn't work.

I then removed firefox and re-installed 1.5. All seems to be working again.

Is there a known issue with firefox 2 and video or was I doing something wrong?

I have noticed streaming video doesn't work for me either(firefox 2.0). Although I found that if I look at the page source and then copy the link directly into gxine then it works....

What worked for me:
Remove the mplayerplug-in for Firefox and install it again (try to get the latest), like this one from LinuxPackages.

I had a feeling this was too soon to add to Slackware. I've had nothing but frustration with Firefox 2.

I've tried to reinstall gxine and I also tried to move gxineplugin.so around and it doesn't work properly at all. Copying a link is fine but that's not normal and should not be acceptable. It isn't for me. I'm perfectly happy with gxine and until this works I'm not bothering with this anymore.

Every other day I'm tweaking Firefox 2 to work the way it used to work in 1.5 so I'm just gonna let out this little rant and get rid of it for now. I shouldn't have to switch media players because Firefox 2 wants to be difficult. It's just not the point. I'll keep an eye on the changelog and when Pat decides to put in a fully functional firefox then I'll be happy to re-download it.
