fine tuning slack with kernel 2.6.x


hello all,

I've performed full installation of Slack 11, without the KDE 3.4.4. The kernel installed then was 2.4.33. Later I installed KDE 3.5.6. Also, I've installed the packages on /extra/linux-2.6.17 and compiled the new kernel only once (and it worked like a charm!). Now I'm into fine tuning this box so it screams. Sure I don't need all the installed packages which, I know, I can easily remove with pkgtool.

As to fine tuning, I'd like some help fixing bugs. Below is dmesg output:

Hi, and congratulations on your recent venture into the 2.6 kernel series.

Having read your dmesg and lspci twice back and forth, I fail to catch what bugs exactly you're looking to eliminate, as all components seem to be coming online just fine..

Are you experiencing any specific problems, or are you looking for more generic tips as to how to finetune your kernel?

Guess you have to be a little more specific for people to be able to help.

Well I did notice this:

I think you may have 1 gig ram?

And I think you probably compiled your kernel with

config NOHIGHMEM=y

if I am right, you can obtain some more ram allocation with

# CONFIG_NOHIGHMEM is not set
CONFIG_HIGHMEM4G=y

then you will get

127MB HIGHMEM available.
896MB LOWMEM available.
