Still at the dual boot, still dependent on Windows, because my needs are vast and right now it seems only windows can fulfill ALL my needs.
Things I want to get working:
1) TV/FM tuner card - Is recognized and module is loaded, the driver is running and the device is detected, Coxenant CX8xxx (x=i dont remember) but I dont know how to set up PVR software for it. What is the EASIEST PVR software to get my TV tuner working, AND since it has S-Vid/Composite/RCA out, and I have my Nintendo64 hooked up and sometimes hook up old S-Vid cameras; how do I get a PVR software that will allow me to change input from AirTV to CVBS to S-Video? Thats what my windows PVR software does right now. And then how do I get FM to work? After all these issues are resolved, I was wondering if it would be too hard for me to write a program/driver for the remote that came with the card. I know C++/Java.
2) Do i have to do anything for true 5.1 output from my sound card or is it automatic? I am wondering if its just passing the same signal to all 6 speakers. So far, sound works and sounds clearer than windows.
Software that I need:
1)Good Video Editor - even if i have to pay for it
2)Electronics Workbench equivalent
3)Mathematica/MATLAB equivalent
4)Web Development environment - some crap came with KDE, it sucks. Although I am perfectly comfortable with editing/creating whole web sites using only Notepad, this would be more convenient.
5)Temperature monitor for Core 2 Duo CPU's...as accurate as Thermal Analysis Tool for Win by Intel...my E6400 is overclocked from 2.13GHz to 3.6GHz so I need to know how warm it is especially when SMP folding.
Thats a lot of questions, If its too much I apologize, I will try to repay you by helping where i can (hardware, programming) but I am new to Linux so idk where to look for answers

Have you tried 'avidemux' yet? It's a pretty nifty app that lets you splice, combine, edit, and even converts various formats from one to another (.wmv to .avi, etc...)
