Final issues before THE switch

Still at the dual boot, still dependent on Windows, because my needs are vast and right now it seems only windows can fulfill ALL my needs.

Things I want to get working:

1) TV/FM tuner card - Is recognized and module is loaded, the driver is running and the device is detected, Coxenant CX8xxx (x=i dont remember) but I dont know how to set up PVR software for it. What is the EASIEST PVR software to get my TV tuner working, AND since it has S-Vid/Composite/RCA out, and I have my Nintendo64 hooked up and sometimes hook up old S-Vid cameras; how do I get a PVR software that will allow me to change input from AirTV to CVBS to S-Video? Thats what my windows PVR software does right now. And then how do I get FM to work? After all these issues are resolved, I was wondering if it would be too hard for me to write a program/driver for the remote that came with the card. I know C++/Java.

2) Do i have to do anything for true 5.1 output from my sound card or is it automatic? I am wondering if its just passing the same signal to all 6 speakers. So far, sound works and sounds clearer than windows.

Software that I need:

1)Good Video Editor - even if i have to pay for it
2)Electronics Workbench equivalent
3)Mathematica/MATLAB equivalent
4)Web Development environment - some crap came with KDE, it sucks. Although I am perfectly comfortable with editing/creating whole web sites using only Notepad, this would be more convenient.
5)Temperature monitor for Core 2 Duo CPU's...as accurate as Thermal Analysis Tool for Win by Intel...my E6400 is overclocked from 2.13GHz to 3.6GHz so I need to know how warm it is especially when SMP folding.

Thats a lot of questions, If its too much I apologize, I will try to repay you by helping where i can (hardware, programming) but I am new to Linux so idk where to look for answers

Did you try Quanta Plus yet? It is a better web-building tool than notepad.

Have you tried 'avidemux' yet? It's a pretty nifty app that lets you splice, combine, edit, and even converts various formats from one to another (.wmv to .avi, etc...)

And no payment necessary :P

You can get Mathematica and MATLAB for Linux (though paid for, obviously). There's also GNU Octave.

for temperature. lm-sensors is suitable to you? I never tried. Programs are sensors and sensors-detect.

Altenatively you can

Code:
cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM0/temperature
If you loaded the thermal module.

Sorry, I don't use front-ends

EDIT: Just remember. Maybe you can configure GKrellM for temperature viewing. Also I suppose some karamba extension exists...

Matlab

A good free Matlab equivalent is Scilab:http://www.scilab.org/
Both Maple and Mathematica are available for Linux. I don't know which do you prefer and which is cheaper.
A nice list of video editing programs for Linux is on the Wikipedia:http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Movie_M...l_intermediate

I have matlab 7 running on my machine. Anyway I actually use the R statistical project
http://cran.r-project.org/
which I find to be much more functional. It has a useful GUI:
