file/print server

What up fellow members. I have a socket 370 celeron with an intel desktop board and a 60 gig hard drive. I would like to turn this into a file/print server on my network. want to put slack 9.1 on it, but first I have some questions.

1) What are your recommeded partition?
2) Does the file system need to be NFS?
3) Going to have to use Samba?
3a) If so, what exactly?
4) Should I use cups, or aspfilter?
4a) Which is easier?
4b) USB or parellel?

The printer I want to hook up is a hp deskjet 932c. Over at linuxprinting.org it works perfectly, here is the direct link .

I appreciate any help.

1. the only place you really need lots of extra for is for user stuff
/boot - 25m
/ - 1 gig
/home - 25 gig
/usr - 2.5 gig
/opt - 2.5 gig
/usr/local - 2.5 gig
/var - 100 meg
/home/shares - 25 gig could also be /home/ftp or whatever

2. NFS is network file shareing it has nothing to do with the actual file system. For the file system i would go reiser or ext3.

3. You will need to use Samba if you plan to connect to or be connected from windows machines or other *nix machines that are using samba for file sharing.

4. It doesnt really matter what you use as long as it works... I would suggest cups however.
4a. cups is easier.
4b. Depends on your printer and pc ... if you have the choice between usb and parallel go parallel it uses less cpu.
