Few more questions

I use GNOME most of the time but no matter what I use when I click logout it only says logout and I have to use the terminal to restart, how do I make it say when I click logout to add the options restart and shutdown? And when booting it has all them scrolling words is their a way to install a boot screen type thing? And sorry one more thing if I use anyother distro I can get a higher screen resolution but with Slack I can only get 1024x786 and the refresh rate can go to 85 and it says 87 and when I chose it the screen messes up a little bit and if I use another distro it can be 84. Please help I really like Slack!!

dropline has the restart & shutdown options...
not sure how to add them manually

be careful though...if you do go dropline you can't remove it(from what i've heard)
i had to reformat to get rid of it

You could right a script, and place in your menu. I've never tried it, but I'm sure it would work nicely.

No, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Search the forums for xorg.conf; there are many existing threads, which will help you.

Yes you can install a bootsplash in slackware, but it requires a lot of work although it is worth it in my opinion. Check out this fine howto from the gentoo forums: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.p...otsplash+howto

Also look at this, but it is a bit out of date: http://www.madpenguin.org/cms/index.php?m=show&id=626

And some screenshots:

Also for the spiffy boot couldn't you run at innit4 and not see all the text fly by? I wouldn't know because I need that text to figure out if anything went wrong/a driver didn't load during bootup. Plus I love console

i run init 4 with a graphical lilo bootscreen and still get the console messages, but i don't have a problem with seeing boot messages/warnings/errors...even if there is a way to turn them off i don't understand why you would want to unless you just want it to look more like windoze?

To enable reboot and shutdown from gnome:

mkdir /var/run/console
touch /var/run/console/yourusername

chmod +s /sbin/reboot
chmod +s /sbin/halt

if you want to see all the bootup messegs while using the bootsplash all you have to do is press f4 :-/ The point is when your system is set up tight the boot messages will always be the same.. some people like eye candy. And if you wanna work on the console all the time, wouldn't you like a nice beautiful background? http://members.rogers.com/mlopes275/fb.png
