error when modprobe(ing) ndiswrapper

I just compile the new 2.6.12 kernel and i'm having trouble when i try to modprobe ndiswrapper in my kernel, i get the following error:

FATAL: Error inserting ndiswrapper (/lib/modules/2.6.12/misc/ndiswrapper.ko): In valid module format

So i tried to recompile ndiswrapper again and got the same error. I went to ndiswrapper site and they said it has something to do with wrong kernel header. But i don't know how to fix that. However when i did a make for ndiswrapper i get teh following warning:

 WARNING: Symbol version dump /usr/src/linux-2.6.12/Modules.symvers is missing; module will have no dependencies and modversions.

if anyone has any insight it would be greatly accepted
