"2Wire's own system-on-a-chip, which integrates the Trimedia processor, Ethernet, USB, HomePNA, ADSL modem, and other functionality into a single chip of over 10 million transistors. By utilizing the TSMC 0.13 micron process"
But nothing on TSMC website - www.tsmc.com - (search engine).
it looks like you can't initialize ppp at all. Did you install the ppp package in addition to roaring penguin? I know it's a silly question, but, I can't think of anything else.
Yeah my friend actually figured it out...the old saying rtfm actually does work...sbc yahoo (mine at least) off of DHCP not PPPoE...so in the installation of Linux, just set up for DHCP. That is what i did and it works just beautifully now.
hey guys
at the moment I have same problem after I installed wireless driver. Im not sure that could be the main reason. another different thing i did before that happened was adsl-connect invoking instead of adsl-start!!! (that does not seem to be the problem cause!!!)
anyway I think some interfers between different network hardwares is the reason.
thanks beforehand for your guides.
I have Yahoo DSL also and im running slack 10.0. It works perfectly. I don't even need to use adsl-start - my connection is automatically started when inet1 is ran.
Im pretty sure all the info is stored onto your dsl modem - or mine anyways.
Open a browser and type "http://192.168.0.1/" in windows OR linux. You'll be able to look at your modem setup, set your user name, password, etc. (I seen something about that in the setup guide I got with my modem/yahoo dsl crap, so to make sure it wasen't just windows software installed I just tried it in slack in firefox and it gave me access to my modem too, just so you guys know its not just software running in the background)
Also ake sure when you run netconfig choose dhcp. it will set your dns servers as 192.168.0.1. Although the servers really are 151.164.14.201 and 151.164.1.8, it still works. I don't know why, it just does. If you browse to that ip I stated it will show you all the dns servers, modem config, ethernet config etc etc etc
I also installed fedora core 2 yesterday and it automatically picked it up and connected it too - without me setting a login/pass. Im no expert and im just assuming this but im pretty sure its stored on the modem.
Also make sure the correct modules are loaded for your ethernet/chipset
Hope this helps.

Also, I took a screenshot of the modem config in firefox, if anyone wants it just ask. Or better yet - if you have somewhere to upload it i'll send it to you and post the url here.
