Thanks for the advice but that's too late, I didn't spot the option. Pat will pay a fee, but I hope he'll be happy regardless :-)

Yes PayPal is quite sneaky in the dark patterns they use to guide users to the path that makes fees and money for them. Pretty next door to outright fraud.

Watch out especially hard for their sneaky 4-5% currency exchange fees. Many (but not all) credit cards are "nice" and charge close to 0 exchange fees - so you want the card to do the currency exchange when paying for anything in another country.

PayPal "helpfully" (in a super fd up evil way) turns on their own currency exchange by default (4-5% fees). You have to look for the tiny link before you make a foreign payment and turn OFF the PayPal exchange, and let your own card handle it. And even when you spot their nasty trick, PayPal puts up one last barrier in the form of a "scary banner" that says "watch out if you turn off our extortionate exchange service your card will deal with it". Yeah you PayPal dm shts, that's what I want.

PayPal and Patreon are centralized and closed source pieces of software. Any chance Patrick can get a Bitcoin and a Monero address to receive funds and donations with these two mediums? Also it would avoid those who live outside of the United States the currency conversion fees.

Best regards.
