/etc/DIR_COLORS is part of /slackware/a/coreutils-<mumble>

If you don't have it you most likely deleted it yourself,
or do things like ls, cp, mv and the like not work for
you either?

Cheers,
Tink

Again: DIR_COLORS is part of the package
coreutils on your slackware CD.

If you're using slackware 10 it's in
<CD1>/slackware/a/coreutils-5.2.1-i486-1.tgz

Cheers,
Tink

The (imho) best way to do the dir-colouring in
ls is to create an alias

alias lsc='ls --color=always'

Stick that into your ~/.bashrc

I wouldn't use colours as the norm because they
aren't very well suited for many kinds of post-
processing of ls' output...

Cheers,
Tink
