DMA error with Slackware and Linux 2.6.8.1

I recently reformated and installed a clean copy of Slackware 10. Doing so, I also compiled a new kernel at 2.6.8.1. Whenever I reboot I get the following error on startup:

Warning: The dma on your hard drive is turned off
This may really slow down the fsck process

How can I rectify this error?

Note: I compiled the kernel with CONFIG_IDEDMAI_AUTO = y

I have one sata drive and one ata and dma is on for both.
