dhcpcd as root :-(

right now in order to connect my linux box to the internet through my dsl modem / router i have to type 'dhcpcd' at the console as root. now what would be the best way of getting a regular user on the system to access the internet?? that is must i always be root to run 'dhcpcd' ? or can is there a way to get dhcpcd to run during the start up of the system via rc scripts? what is the best method of setting up slackware and dsl? all suggestions are welcome.

/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf will allow you to setup either static IPs or DHCP for whichever NIC(s) you have during boot.

If you want to hookup a standalone DSL modem directly to your Linux box you'll need to install the rp-ppoe package, it's located in the "N" series.

A "dirty" way of doing it, is adding dhcpcd to /etc/rc.d/rc.local, all commands there will run as root during startup, it's the last script executed and is there to add your own commands to startup
