Desktop icon question

I keep a clear terminal in the upper left corner of my desktop (KDE on 12.1). When I download files I send them to the desktop as well. These files plus the icons for plugin drives typically end up underneath the terminal window. Is there any way that I can have the icons default to the lower left and stack horizontally instead of defaulting to the upper left and stacking vertically? This would keep me from having to minimize the terminal, move the icons then restore the terminal.

Thanks in advance,
Eric

I don't see an option for this, but you could open a Konqueror window to your desktop (~/Desktop) and place it where you want to see the files. It's the only solution I can think of in KDE3.
