data recovery?

rofl... Alright.. i just want to ask

I convinced a friend to try out linux, and instead of formatting hdb, he formatted hda into ext3...

The question is, is there an (lol..) easy way to recover his data? Or is a data recovery center the only chance?

/me thinks there might be a way, since the way i see formatting being done is just the index bit being overwritten.. the data *should* still be there.. Then again.. he did repartition...

edit: not bad.. the / me stuff =]

http://www.cgsecurity.org/index.html?testdisk.html

That's a link to a program called Test-disk. It can rewrite the partition table. I used it after removing XP off hda and repartitioning it. I made a tarball of my home directory, but forgot to move it to another drive. I used Test-disk to rewrite the partition so I could move the file.
