I use wired headphones and with puleaudio it used to mute every time i plugged then in or removed them (annoying but i could live with that).
But after the last update to RC2 i can only use what i boot with, if i boot with headphones plugged in then i don't get sound if i unplug the headphones.
If i boot without headphones plugged in the my speakers work but i get no sound if i plug in my headphones.
I can't see that anything is muted in kmix ( i use kde).
I don't know much about pulse audio so how do one use it and track down things when there not working?
pamixer seems pretty useless and "pamixer -u" doesn't change anything and muting -m and then unmuting -u doesn't solve it so it's not muted.
restarting or stopping rc.pulseaudio doesn't change anything.
/var/log/messages spits "darkstar root: ACPI group jack / action headphone is not defined" when i plug/unplug headphones.
I don't want to need to reboot to switch between headphones/speakers.
Just get rid of PA by removing it and recompiling phonon with "-DWITH_PulseAudio=BOOL:OFF ".
Also remove / rename /etc/asound.conf.
That would help figuring out whether pulseaudio or alsa is the culprit here.
I'm thinking about setting up my own Slackware repository with all pulseaudio dependencies disabled. Some people might prefer not to use PA at all as it is known to cause all kinds of problems.
I'm not saying it's completely useless but it does seem to cause far more trouble than it's worth.
OldHolborn so you can confirm that it also affects you.
archfan i would like to be free from pulse audio, i'm mostly waiting for 14.2 stable then i think i will remove PA since it think it brings more problems then i solves.
I would really appreciate if there was a folder with packages without PA in the final release but i don't think it will happen.
Now it's working, more or less. If startup with headphones in then it works fine, if I come out of suspend it doesn't until the plug is reinserted and removed again

I hear you. I will get my repository up and running soon. When it's online I will share the link with everyone who has interest in PA free packages.
Maybe we could create a list of all packages that need recompiling against ALSA.
little reminder that occurs sometimes with pavuctrol is the record or play back may get set to monitor mode please select a different device mode.
Monitor is a mode in which another program takes control of that device.

How do i check that i i had never used pavuctrol before i got this error and used it to change speaker/headphones.
Does anyone know how to debug this problem since i don't know much about pulse audio?
Automatic switching between audio jack/speakers should be fixed so it works in the stable release of 14.2
Seems related to /etc/rc.d/rc.pulseaudio being executable during boot "chmod -x /etc/rc.d/rc.pulseaudio" solved it.
Stopping the script doesn't make it work it needs to be -x during boot.
I do need to start it to run some wine games that doesn't work otherwise but that can be done after boot and stop if after i used wine.
I guess it has to do with --disallow-module-loading
