creative zen not recognized in slack 13

Hi all!

It is good to be back on the forums. Until a couple of weeks ago I had not been on here in 6 years(can't believe i remembered my usname and psword & that I still had an account). But, to my problem, I have Slackware 13 dual booted with vista on a dell 1545 2 ghz 2gig ram. Thanks to these forums I have gotten everything working except my creative zen vision M 30g. I have tried alll the suggestions posted here and other places on the net. Here is my output from lsusb.

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 008 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 007 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 006 Device 002: ID 046d:c018 Logitech, Inc. Optical Wheel Mouse
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0bda:0158 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Mass Storage Device
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

Here is how it shows up in Kinfo

any way i can transfer files back and forth to this would be great since it does not work in vista either. any help is greatly appreciated.
and I am pretty sure 99.9% that I have all the libmtp, libnjb, and whatever other libs are needed installed but in gnomad it says no devices found on USB hub. I hope this is enough info and someone out there has the trick or maybe I am missing something obvious.

thanks

If the Realtek storage device is your Creative ZEN Vision:M then it somehow has the wrong vendor ID. See /lib/udev/rules.d/90-libmtp.rules -- it should be
Code:
# Creative ZEN Vision:M (DVP-HD0004)
ATTR{idVendor}=="041e", ATTR{idProduct}=="4151", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", GROUP="audio", MODE="0660"
You can hack it and use the vendor ID you have, but I don't know why it isn't correct in the first place. If you do decide to modify it, note that you should add a rule in /etc/udev/rules.d and leave the rules in /lib/udev/rules.d alone -- anything in /etc/udev/rules.d should overwrite the defaults in /lib/udev/rules.d.

thnxs for the reply I think I may have an idea of what the problem is, I'm pretty sure I have a part of the player (I havent used it in a looong time) set up as Removable Disk and that is what linux is detecting. Looks like I may have to reset the unit and start from scratch. I will use your suggestion and try to hack it but then I think I'm only going to be looking at the Removable Disk portion of the unit. thank u for the reply it got me thinking....and thats always a good thing!!!
