Couple of Kernel Errors...

Hi,

Virgin linux\slack user here. Had a ton of fun customizing a kernel this afternoon. Mostly successful, but I see a couple errors in my demsg log that I would like to fix or at least understand before I continue on my linux journey! Let's take a look at my errors shall we?

---------------------- SNIP --------------------------
First, the error "EHCI: early BIOS handoff failed (BIOS bug ?)". From the kernel help info, EHCI is required for supporing USB 2.0, which my motherboard deffinatly contains. Why the error though? How could I fix this?

Second, I'm receiving 7 pcie "invalid IRQ" errors. I have TWO PCI-E 16x slots on my motherboard. Each contains a Nvidia 7800GT 256MB graphics card. Both of these cards are in SLI. Why so many errors? Is this just a single IRQ conflict? In windows, I have no IRQ issues. What should I do?

Thanks fellow slackers!
Tomas

Just as additional (possibly helpful) information. If I boot the test26.s default kernel, I no longer get that EHCI error. But I DO get the same IRQ errors.

Note that my graphics cards seem to be working fine, however.

More info:

I configured both graphics cards (dual monitors) and both displayed just fine. So I'm guessing the IRQ errors are harmless?

Yep, I would say the same. The errors on EHCI and irqs seem quite harmless. This is usual at bootup as kernel tries to configure the devices using info from ACPI or IOPIC whichever does the irq routing and lot of extra stuff I don't remember now. As long as your hardware is fully functional, these messages are harmless and can be ignored.
