Console Screen Size

I am using a Toshiba Satellite 4600 laptop -- tuxmobil.org/toshiba_sp4600 (I cant post the url as a url untill I am certified on the forums as not being a spammer)-- and am having some issues with the screen resolution. I was using the default slack kernel, but switched to the new 2.6.10 kernel because it has ALSA integrated for my sound card. The new kernel boots in 640x480. whereas the old kernel boots into 1024x768 like it should. I have disabled the trident drivers, and am trying to use the VESA framebuffer. Has anybody had these problems (this laptop is a common model) and what is the recommended action for fixing this type of error? Thanks a bunch - Bill

This is not an error to fix but a feature to add to your kernel I think,
Have you enabled in config :

CONFIG_VIDEO_SELECT
CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE
CONFIG_FB_VESA
