Configuring gdm - starting dwm with a local script

Hello,

I've dwm installed which is a Tiling-WM. dwm is customized by recompiling the sources, therefore I've decided that it's most convenient to have dwm installed in my home-directory. I want to boot into runlevel 4 and have gdm installed.

The problem is, that gdm does not recognize the local dwm and I cannot seem to find out how to configure gdm in order to give me the choice to start dwm.

I want to boot into runlevel 4 instead of 3 because I have configured my laptop for hibernate and suspend and if I boot into runlevel 3, it is not possible to lock a session before hibernating or suspending.
Another question: does anyone know, how I can configure gdm in order to lock a session?

Thanks in advance

Markus

You may be able to place the binary in /etc/rc.d/rc.local to start it.

How about modifying your ~/.dmrc file? See the gdm documentation.

Hi, thanks for the replies,

I've found a solution how I can start dwm in the user's home-directory. I've created a file /usr/share/xsessions/dwm.desktop file with the following content
Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=dwm
Comment=The dwm tiling window manager
Exec=~/.dwm/startdwm
# no icon yet, only the top three are currently used
Icon=
Type=Application
Now I can start dwm from gdm. Unfortunately it isn't possible for users to start dwm if they don't have dwm locally installed (although) dwm is also available in /usr/bin).
