Configuring an external display (Mitsubishi HC1600 Projector)

Right now, my projector is connected to my ThinkPad T60 through VGA. My current xorg.conf looks like this: http://alkos333.pastebin.com/m70307e39

The xrandr reports the following: http://alkos333.pastebin.com/m5169657

It looks like by default, the projector is in the clone mode and displays whatever is currently on the screen of my laptop. The problem is the difference in resolutions. My laptop runs at 1400x1050, whereas 1280x1024 is as high as projector can go, yet the optimal is even lower - 1024x768. It's clear that both the laptop and the projector have to be of the same resolution in order for the full screen to be displayed and that's fine. What bothers me is that when I run startx, the fluxbox starts with a resolution of 1024x768 even though the projector is in stand by mode while still connected through VGA. So what I have to do is disconnect the VGA cord and then fluxbox starts at 1400x1050. I was advised to add ModeLine to the monitor section to force it to start at 1400x1050 ( ModeLine "1400x1050" 108.00 1400 1448 1560 1688 1050 1051 1054 1066
), but that didn't help.
