After changing the settings via netconfig. You do not have to reboot to get the settings go through / the changes to take effect.
Just (as root / su) /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 restart
I usually /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 stop
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 start
Reboot only if you change/update kernel. No need to reboot otherwise. That is for Windoze.
