compiling mod_perl on Slack 10

Got a problem. I've got Slack 10 running on a production server and need to put mod_perl on it. How do I compile mod_perl without having to redo SSL, PHP, auth_ldap, etc? Is there any way to do this other than downloading Apache src and recompiling it with mod_perl? What about the package that came with the distro? I'd appreciate any tips you can offer -- because I hate messing up a production server. Thanks.
