compiling 2.6.x kernel

yo everyone...
see, i have a machine with 2.4.26 kernel installed
when i am going to compile the 2.6.9 kernel (a tar.bz2 source package)
i know it will use the kernel-headers package i have installed.

my question is, if that is ok to compile the kernel with the kernel-headers package installed for the 2.4.26, and if not, how can i fix it (when i remove the package it won't compile)

I compiled 2.6xx from the 2.6.1 with the 2.4 headers, so it is not a problem. I think the kernel
compile use the headers that are in the kernel tree.
